This modern California style country house was just starting to show its age. ABC Supply furnished the new shingles, soffit and fiber cement board siding that brought the exterior back to life. But what to do with the old enclosed breezeway with the bubble top skylights? Marklein Builders Inc. and the owners together re-imagined the space into a new gathering room. The existing concrete floor was removed, the room was enlarged outwards by 2 feet and a full basement added. The old lean-to roof was removed and replaced with soaring gable roof. The large Marvin windows and atrium doors bring the outside in. This wall is anchored by a massive cultured stone wall which includes a gas Icon fireplace inside and outside a 42' Montana wood burning fireplace. The elevated paving stone outdoor patio is perfect for casual summer entertaining. To further open up the interior, the kitchen wall was removed and replaced with a low slung Mike Striegl custom build cabinet. The "where to locate the television" question was answered with a niche above the fireplace with the electronics hidden out of sight. It's a wonderful room to turn down the lights, get the fire going and watch a classic old movie.
